As of 2019, there is only one known natural hydrogen gas deposit in the world, and it has been discovered in Mali. It is currently in its early production stage.[2] Since hydrogen is globally required for essential chemical processes, the production of hydrogen plays a key role in any industrialized society.[3] The hydrogen generation market is expected to be valued at $115.25 billion USD in 2017.[4] As of 2019, roughly 70 million tons of hydrogen are produced annually worldwide for various uses, such as, oil refining, and in the production of ammonia (Haber process) and methanol (reduction of carbon monoxide), and also in as a fuel in transportation. Hydrogen is also produced as a by-product of the chlor-alkali process.[5]
